Ensuring habitats are maintained
Newydd have ensured that a full ecological survey of the current building has been completed. The survey found that Treforest School was a nesting area for a colony of swift birds. Swifts prefer to breed high above the ground away from danger, especially in the eaves under the roofs of buildings. Sadly, many traditional nesting sites have been lost due to the demolition of old buildings, and redevelopment, or where roof eaves have been blocked up or removed. In order to preserve this area for the Swifts – Newydd have arranged for demolition works to commence before the birds return to nest in April. Once the development is complete we have agreed to provide swift boxes to encourge the birds to return to the area.

Demolition Works
Our demolition contractor is on site at the moment removing any asbestos from the existing buildings. Our main demolition works are due to commence week commencing 17th March 2008 and we aim to complete all demolition works within 4 weeks. We are in the process of appointing our contractor; once on site, should you experience any difficulties, contact numbers for the site manager will be clearly signposted outside the development. We are hopeful that the development will be completed in late summer 2009.
