Community Involvement
Newydd N.E.A.D.S. You
Early in 2008, the first advisory group was formed to address equality and disability issues that tenants and residents face on a day to day basis. The group has since named itself as NEWYDD’S EQUALITY AND DISABILITY SUBGROUP or N.E.A.D.S. for short.
The group has a strong membership who have received training and had invited guest speakers attend their meetings including the Stroke Association and Learning Disability Wales. Departmental representation has also been encouraged in order that the group can find out more about the Association’s policies and procedures.
The group decided that in order to give more of a focus to their work that they develop an action plan with realistic timescales for achieving targets set. The group felt that they would like to be more involved or make recommendations for the following aspects of the Association’s work:
• Communication
• Lettings
• Raising awareness
• Development
• Repairs
• Housing Management
• Community involvement
The N.E.A.D.S. group has also had a logo designed in order to give them their own identity. A big thank you to Imogen, daughter of tenant board member, Brian Ereira, for producing such an excellent logo.
